Davy Jones’ Locker
My maternal grandfather was a merchant marine and fierce defender of organized labor. He had worked during a time when there were no work protections, as a child, in America, with a third grade education. He spoke boisterously, and with levity. At times, his voice would become hushed. It was at this time he would speak of “Davy Jones’ Locker”. This is the place of rest for mariners, in the deep blue sea. Rest in peace, grandpa. Red sky at night, sailors delight.
